The USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers have joined the ranks of Pittsburgh sports teams that wear black and gold. Previously the team wore orange and purple, which dates back to the team’s origins in 1984.
Maulers new head coach and former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive backs coach Ray Horton said the change was “Pittsburgh appropriate,” and we could not agree more.

The Maulers are coming off a terrible 1-9 season in the first year of the USFL relaunch. Hiring head coach Ray Horton was the first step in the team’s rebuilding from the ground up, moving on from previous head coach Kirby Wilson.

The Maulers will play their home games in Canton, Ohio, for the 2023 season, closer to Pittsburgh than their previous hub in Birmingham, Alabama.
