Steelers tried to sign LT Orlando Brown before Bengals deal

This is interesting. According to Jeremy Fowler, the Steelers were interested in LT Orlando Brown, one of the top free agents on the market.

He signed with the Bengals with a four year, $64M contract that included $43.5M in guarantees.

Once again, the guaranteed money loses the Steelers a big-time splash. The steelers never throw serious guaranteed money around.

It does tell you the Steelers want to improve the offensive line and looked to add flexibility for the draft, as pick 17 will come down to a handful of positions, most likely defense.

There aren’t many free agent left tackles available, so if the Steelers want an upgrade before the draft, they could still sign someone, but the options aren’t inspiring.

Now the cap they offer, they could use that in other areas of need, such as re-signing their free agents.
