The Steelers have been actively seeking to improve their roster during this offseason, and one position that required attention was tight end. While not always a position that is given much attention, the Steelers recognized the importance of having a reliable tight end in their offense.
The Steelers drafted Gentry, a product of the University of Michigan, in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Although he had a limited role in his first two seasons with the team, the coaching staff saw potential in Gentry’s size and athleticism.
The decision to bring back Gentry indicates that the Steelers believe he has the potential to contribute more to the team. At 6-foot-8 and 265 pounds, Gentry has the physical tools to be an effective blocker and receiver. During his time with Michigan, he was primarily used as a receiver, but he has improved his blocking skills since joining the Steelers.
